The Liberal Democrats have retained Hedge End South following a successful by-election campaign, with Jim Paine elected as the new Borough Councillor.

Jim secured 1,086 votes, winning 46.1% of the vote and finishing more than 21 percentage points ahead of the Conservatives in second place.

The result means the Liberal Democrats have successfully held the seat following the death of former councillor Cynthia Garton.

Jim’s victory follows a strong local campaign, with Liberal Democrat volunteers speaking to residents across Hedge End South and setting out their plans to continue working hard for the community.

Jim said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have been elected to represent the residents of Hedge End South.

“I want to thank everyone who supported me and the fantastic team of volunteers who worked so hard throughout the campaign. I’m looking forward to getting started and making sure residents have a strong local voice on Eastleigh Borough Council.”

The result means the Liberal Democrats continue to hold 35 of the 39 seats on Eastleigh Borough Council.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped with the campaign and to the residents of Hedge End South who put their trust in Jim.
