Responding to the news that the Inspector for the Secretary of State has dismissed an appeal by Foreman Homes for permission to build 61 houses on a greenfield site beside Satchell Lane, Hamble, Liz Jarvis, Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for Eastleigh, said:

"This is a fantastic early Christmas present for the residents of Hamble who were worried about the impact this unnecessary development would have on the peninsula, and a victory for common sense.

"Over 750 local people objected to the plans and I had lots of phone calls and emails from residents very concerned about the impact on the local community if the proposed development had gone ahead."

Both Liz Jarvis and Cllr Keith House, Leader of Eastleigh Borough Council, gave evidence at the eight day inquiry in early November. The proposed development had been refused by Eastleigh Borough Council and was not aligned with the adopted Eastleigh local plan, which states there should be no additional development on the Hamble Peninsula due to Hamble Lane capacity constraints.

Cllr House commented: "Good to see the Planning Inspectorate back Eastleigh Borough Council's decision to refuse Foreman Homes plans for housing on a rural section of Satchell Lane in Hamble.

"We need the right homes in the right places, not the wrong homes in the wrong places. This is a real success and thanks to everyone locally who supported the Council's decision."
