Mike Thornton, local MP, has welcomed yet another drop in unemployment in Eastleigh.
Eastleigh’s 2015 unemployment rate is down to 1%, which is below the UK and regional average. This places Eastleigh in the top 100 constituencies with the lowest unemployment in the country.
There were only 581 people in Eastleigh receiving out-of-work benefits in January 2015. That’s 319 fewer than in the same period last year.
Since May 2010, the national economy has created a job every minute of every 24-hour working day. There are record numbers of women in work, and the UK has experience the largest employment increase of all of the countries in the EU.
Local MP Mike Thornton said: “I’m encouraged to see that the hard work of local people combined with the policies set by the Liberal Democrats’ government produce job creation and increased employment.”
“Although I am pleased to see how improved the employment situation is in Eastleigh, we must continue to work hard to create skilled and well paid jobs. I feel that our local success in working with local businesses to create thousands of apprentices in Eastleigh is the key this goal.”
