Local MP commits to beat cancer4.05.11pm GMT Mon 11th Jan 2010 Chris Huhne, MP for Eastleigh, has signed up to Cancer Research UK's campaign 'commit to beat cancer'. The campaign makes a commitment to tackling all aspects of cancer, from prevention to treatment and scientific research. Cancer Research UK is one of the world's leading charities dedicated to beating cancer through research into prevention, treatment and education. There are more than 293,000 new cases of cancer diagnosed each year in the UK. This means that every two minutes, someone is diagnosed with cancer in the UK and over 1 in 3 people will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime. Commenting, Chris Huhne said: "Cancer is one of the biggest killers in the UK, but with charities such as Cancer Research UK working on tackling it from all fronts, the survival rates are better than ever. "However, there is much more to be done, and charities need our support to ensure that they can continue their excellent work. "I am delighted to add my name to this campaign, and I truly believe that if we commit to investing in research into all aspects of cancer, we can beat it once and for all in the future."
