QE2 ACTIVITY CENTRE GETS TOP SUPPORT

2.08.48pm UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 17th Aug 2007

Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne said he was "highly impressed" by the marvellous new facilities at the Queen Elizabeth II silver jubilee activity centre in Manor Farm Country Park, Bursledon.

Mr Huhne was shown the new eating area and kitchen as well as older facilities for the disabled and those with learning difficulties during a visit.

Cllr Godfrey Olson, the chairman of the QE2 centre, and Philip Oates, the director, briefed Mr Huhne on the work that the centre does as the only such facility in the south east of England.

"This is a marvellous place for the seriously disabled and those with less serious learning difficulties to come for a complete break. They can use the climbing area which is specially adapted even for those in wheelchairs, and the outdoor play area which is as exciting an adventure playground as you could want.

"For five days, lucky groups from as far away as Margate are given the opportunity to stay in their own log cabin in the woods and go boating on the Hamble, bird-watching, climbing, walking. One of the most popular activities is archery" said Mr Huhne.
