The development could cause severe difficulties for Bishopstoke residents

Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne has written to Hampshire county council asking for a proper inquiry into the traffic implications for Bishopstoke if development goes ahead on the proposed scale at the Mount Hospital site. Mr Huhne said that he could testify that the access road was at time just single track, and that there could be severe difficulties for Bishopstoke residents.

Mr Huhne said: "I am very concerned at the helter skelter manner in which the proposals for the demolition of the Mount Hospital and a replacement with housing appear to be progressing without a proper consideration of the traffic implications, which is of course a county responsibility. The main access road to the site from the north is effectively single track and from the south is congested already, which makes it hard to understand how it will cope with the increased volume of traffic. I am asking for an assurance from the county that they have conducted a proper due diligence on the traffic implications, and that the leader and the controlling Conservative group are satisfied that there will be no problem."
