Chris Huhne meets children who have signed up for the reading mission

Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne last week welcomed the success of the Eastleigh library summer reading scheme for children aged four to eleven..

Visiting the library in the Swan Centre, Chris is pictured here with librarians Lesley Smith and Angela Gill and Mrs Carol Larkin with Tara Larkin aged 5, Erin Larkin aged 10 and Rowena Mackintosh aged 10.

The Reading Mission is a scheme that offers certificates and a medal to children who read 6 books between 15th July and the 9th September. To date, 596 children have joined up and started collecting the sticker sheets towards their prizes.

"This scheme is a great success encouraging children to read good stories and stretch their minds and their imaginations over the summer holidays" said Chris.

"Enjoying books is one of the most valuable things that any child can learn, as it opens so many doors to skills, knowledge and insights".
