Liberal Democrats in Eastleigh won a further two seats from the Tories on election night to bring their total number of councillors to 34, a record for Eastleigh Borough Council.

As reported in the Southern Daily Echo, it was a great night for the Liberal Democrats. Leader Keith House, who himself gained a 370 majority in Hedge End Wildern ward, said: "It is an absolutely stunning success. It is a resounding victory. Our team worked very hard and efficiently to get people out to vote. This is the biggest Liberal Democrat group ever." Councillor House said that bringing the cinema to the Swan Centre, keeping down the council tax and investing in quality services had paid dividends.

Lib Dems joining the council include Deepak Gupta (Eastleigh Central), Bruce Tennent (West End North), Joyce Sortwell (West End South), Pam Holden-Brown (Chandler's Ford East) and Julie Skinner (Hedge End St. Johns). In addition Cathy Fraser, Hugh Millar, Alan Broadhurst, Wayne Irish, Mo Sollitt, Phil Spearey, Louise Bloom and Keith House all held their seats.
