Thumbs up for multiplex cinema as Vue Cinemas announce Eastleigh launch12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 26th Apr 2006
Eastleigh Council Leader Keith House has given his 'thumbs-up' to the announcement by Vue Cinemas that they will be the anchor to the Swan Centre Leisure Development. Vue operate nationally, and have major cinemas in Hampshire at Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth and Basingstoke. "Vue Cinemas are a great catch for Eastleigh", says Councillor House, who personally led the campaign to work with the Swan Centre to attract a major developer to the town centre. "They are one the best regarded cinema operators in Britain, and have a great track record of attracting new audiences to cinema." "We always said that getting the cinema operator on board was the key to developing our leisure scheme, and so it has proved. The development team will be announcing other major leisure and restaurant occupiers over the coming weeks, including the 20-lane bowling centre and additional big name shops linking through to the Swan Centre." The development team expect to start work on building as soon as tenders are let with opening scheduled for Spring 2008. "This is the biggest investment in our town centre since the Swan Centre was built," concluded Councillor House. "It has taken time to get the right package together, but it was better to get it right than to rush at it".
