News that the Government plan to scrap direct trains from Chandler's Ford to Southampton and Totton in just over a year have been revealed following research by the Liberal Democrats12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 25th Nov 2005
The plans are part of the "south west" franchise that the Department for Transport will let from February 2007. Lib Dems have discovered they only include a "shuttle" service from Romsey to Eastleigh. "This would mean an end to direct trains to Southampton", says Chandler's Ford's Lib Dem Councillor Alan Broadhurst. "Chandler's Ford Station has been a real success since it re-opened in 2003 and is used by many commuters to Southampton, safe late-night journeys from the city and a convenient way of getting to the Airport. The Government plans threaten to stop all of that and drive more people back to their cars." It is not too late to stop this madness. The Government's plans are out for consultation until early in January. Contact Alan Broadhurst 023 8025 3648 or Keith House 07768 357918
