Biggest bus cuts in Hampshire's history2.14.33pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 28th Jul 2005
"Hampshire Conservatives have broken a budget promise to protect services with "no cuts" by just weeks after the elections axing 120,000 of subsidised bus journies around the County", says Eastleigh's Borough Council leader and County Councillor Keith House. Many of these are in Eastleigh Borough, including vital evening and weekend services from Eastleigh through Velmore to Chandler's Ford and Hiltingbury. Many of these services are provided with a subsidy of less than £2.50 per journey, the existing benchmark for value for money in public transport. The County Council looks set on forcing people off buses and into cars, creating more congestion, and denying residents without access to the car any chance of getting around. The County Council Report is at: http://www.hants.gov.uk/decisions/decisions-docs/050726-exmshr-R0720101615.html Specific cuts in Eastleigh Borough: Solent Blue Line 44A Eastleigh-Hiltingbury (Mon-Sat evenings) Withdraw service except Thursday First 16 Butlocks Heath diversion Withdraw service Solent Blue Line 9/26B Southampton-Hedge End-Eastleigh (Sunday eves) Withdraw service Solent Blue Line 44A Eastleigh-Chandlers Ford-Hiltingbury (Sundays) Withdraw service Stagecoach 69 Winchester-Fareham (Mon-Sat) Withdraw evening services
