Chris Huhne Wins!

Chris Huhne has held Eastleigh constituency for the Liberal Democrats in the General Election. In a very close result, Chris Huhne won by 568 votes over Conservative candidate, Conor Burns.

Chris Huhne said:

"With David Chidgey retiring it was always expected to be a close fight, but the hard work that he has put in over his eleven years as our MP has helped us to our victory tonight. I would like to thank local residents for putting their trust in me to serve as their Member of Parliament, and I now look forward to getting on with the job."

In the elections to Hampshire County Council, Liberal Democrat candidates won every division in the Eastleigh constituency.

The full result was:

Chris Huhne (Liberal Democrat) 19,216 (38.6%)

Conor Burns (Conservative) 18,648 (37.5%)

Chris Watt (Labour) 10,238 (20.6%)

Chris Murphy (UKIP) 1,669 (3.4%)
