Bursledon Set For New Library Following Council Investment4.17.11pm UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 11th Feb 2005
Bursledon could be set for a new library now that the Lib Dem Borough Council has agreed over £300,000 towards the project. At their recent meeting the Borough Council's Executive Committee set aside the sum of £309,000 in its Community Investment Programme as a contribution towards the scheme. The project would be developed by Hampshire County Council as part of its Library Service and see the extension of the existing Community Centre at Lowford. The scheme would also include environmental improvements to provide a garden, BBQ area plus improved cycle and access arrangements. the Council's contribution also includes funding for a possible car park extension. The Borough Council has worked closely with the Bursledon Community Association in developing the project with the Library Service. Lib Dem Council Leader and County Councillor for Bursledon Keith House commented "We have welcomed this chance to work together with local people and the Community Association. Once agreements have been reached with the Community Association, Parish and County Councils it is expected that work will be able to start on the scheme later this year. When completed it will bring real benefits to the Bursledon area."
