Lib Dems are committed to fighting greenfield development

Local Liberal Democrats have slammed plans by Wimpey and Barratt to build 600 houses and an 850 space park and ride scheme in Bursledon. The plans, for land currently used for car boot sales west of Hamble Lane and at the top of Green Lane would cause traffic gridlock and would rip the heart out of efforts by the Liberal Democrat Borough Council to stop anymore greenfield building.

Commenting on the application Eastleigh Council Leader Keith House said:

"This is a hostile planning application from developers fighting the Borough's Local Plan, which demonstrates there is no need for greenfield development in this sensitive location west of Bursledon. The Borough is committed to defending its green spaces and preventing gridlock on Hamble Lane and local roads. Builders who want a quick fix should look elsewhere - Eastleigh Borough will defend its Local Plan with energy and determination".

The planning application will be considered by the Borough Council's Local Area Committee, probably in January. Please write to the Council's Head of Development Control with your views at Civic Offices, Leigh Road, Eastleigh, SO50 9YN.
