Lib Dems Back Energy Efficiency Week

Liberal Democrats on Eastleigh Borough Council are backing the national Energy Efficiency Week. The week is designed to raise awareness of the human impact on climate change and encourage people to implement measures in the home to save energy, money and the environment.

Greenhouse gas emissions, which cause climate change, are often blamed on cars and industry. But Executive Councillor for the Environment, Louise Bloom reminds households that the home can also contribute to global warming. "Our homes are each responsible for six tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every single year - more than the average car. Taking steps to improve insulation and heating in our homes helps to cut these emissions, saving us money at the same time."

With substantial discounts on insulation available to all homeowners there has never been a better time to take action. For example cavity wall insulation for a three-bed semi will now cost you just £175, an investment you will quickly get back through savings in your fuel bills.

To mark this year's Energy Efficiency Week, Eastleigh Borough Council is holding roadshows around the Borough so that residents can find out more about making their home more energy efficient. At each roadshow there will be special energy wasting 'crime scene' highlighting bad habits in the home.

The roadshow will be visiting the following locations where visitors can pick up a free energy saving light bulb:

Monday 18th October, Sainsburys in Hedge End, 10am-4pm

Wednesday 27th October, Swan Centre in Eastleigh, 10am-4pm

Thursday 28th October, Waitrose in Chandler's Ford, 10am-4pm

If you can't make it along to a roadshow but would like advice about heating and insulation please call the Energy Efficiency Advice Centre on 0800 512 512.
