Chidgey Welcomes Untaxed Vehicles Hotline

5.24.21pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 28th Apr 2004

David Chidgey, Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh, has welcomed the announcement of a new telephone number for Hampshire residents to report unlicensed vehicles to the DVLA.

Mr Chidgey has long campaigned on behalf of local residents about lack of action over unlicensed cars left on our streets and in our public places. Now residents can call the DVLA on a freephone number (0800 325 202) for use by members of the public to report unlicensed vehicles directly.

David Chidgey said:

"Many local residents have complained to me over the years about unlicensed vehicles left in the street, to all intents abandoned, creating hazardous eyesores.

The introduction of the new freephone number is just the sort of initiative we have been calling for, for all too long. Finally, the Government has listened and we can expect some action at last.

As well as the introduction of the new telephone number, the Minister for Transport has told Mr Chidgey that the DVLA will be concentrating its efforts on targeting long-term offenders who persistently do not pay Vehicle Excise Duty.

ENDS.
