5.38.18pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 26th Apr 2004

New figures released today by David Chidgey, Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh and member of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, show that the majority of the largest contracts awarded by the Coalition in Iraq have gone to US companies. Commenting, Mr Chidgey said:

"It is unacceptable for the UK to be treated as the poor relation when it comes to reconstructing Iraq.

"UK firms have expert knowledge and vast experience in the region which can only benefit the Iraqi people."
