Planning officials are today advising councillors to back a major planning decision for the people of Eastleigh.
The plans for 1,400 homes, including 420 affordable homes, are being suggested for approval tonight in a bid to provide badly needed services and build homes for some of the 6,000 people on Eastleigh’s housing waiting list.
It is set to created 2,100 jobs and bring in an extra £10m of Government investment into Eastleigh.
The development would turn a golf course into an area with open spaces, vital new homes, a new primary school, more play facilities, a community and children’s centre and a sports area.
By approving this decision, Eastleigh Borough Councillors would also protect vital green spaces around villages such as Hedge End and Fair Oak.
Council Leader Keith House said: “Local Eastleigh families are struggling to find places to live. They’re living in homes that are too small, and young people are moving away. There are almost 6,000 people on the housing waiting list and something needs to be done.
“This will be a really positive boost for the borough. We’ll build the homes we need, create jobs and opportunity, as well as protect the fields and countryside around our villages.”
