Our Lib Dem Borough Council has stepped in and purchased the Budgens site in Hedge End to ensure it is kept as a retail site and with car parking for the centre of Hedge End.
The Council will be working with potential retailers on this site. This is not a 'quick fix' but does mean that at the very least the 93 flats scheme will never return. This is a big investment for Hedge End's future. Council staff have worked really hard on this over many months. The car park at the former supermarket site at Hedge End is now open for public use. The car park is open seven days a week between 7.30am - 6pm and parking is free. It will be locked at night. Cllrs Cynthia Garton (Chair of the Local Area Committee) and Ian Corben (Cabinet Member) worked to get the site safely secured in public ownership. A comprehensive plan for the site will take some time to sort out so we ensure we get the right solution for the future of Hedge End town centre.
