Stop the Conservative OAP alarm cuts!

Mike_with_pensioner.jpgOur local MP Mike is keeping up the fight to stop controversial Conservative cuts to support and alarm services for thousands of pensioners.

The cuts, which Conservative County bosses didn’t even present in their budget earlier this year, will see funding for support and alarm services in all First Wessex properties stopped, meaning services like alarm pull-chords and emergency pendants will be under threat.

The cut will affect 400 people in the Eastleigh area who rely on these emergency safety nets, with thousands more affected by the change across the county.

Eastleigh MP Mike Thornton is demanding a rethink on the cuts.

Mike Thornton said, "Cutting alarm and support funding would leave many thousands of elderly residents vulnerable and cut off from emergency help. Conservative County Bosses need a rethink.”

"The County Council has over £400 million in their reserves for a 'rainy day'. They ought to be spending some of this to maintain vital support for our pensioners.”

Sign Mike’s petition today to back the campaign for the County to rethink!

"We the undersigned back Mike's campaign to stop Conservative County Bosses cutting funding to alarm and support services for local vulnerable pensioners!"

My parents lived for 6 years in Maunsell House, they had need to use these alarms on many occasions. They are a life saver and I was really upset and angry to hear that the funding was being cut.

As you will be aware I have been in discussions with you and former MP Mr Huhne on this very subject for a number of years. Recently, I have provided you with further information that confirms what the local council and First Wessex have been doing since 2007 when the Support budget was ‘cut’ from £8.1 billion to £6 billion in 2006. I can and will provide you with further evidence to expose this what can only be considered as a massive ‘fraud’, which has saved the Hampshire CC a total of in excess of £8 million.
