Our local MP Mike is keeping up the fight to stop controversial Conservative cuts to support and alarm services for thousands of pensioners.
The cuts, which Conservative County bosses didn’t even present in their budget earlier this year, will see funding for support and alarm services in all First Wessex properties stopped, meaning services like alarm pull-chords and emergency pendants will be under threat.
The cut will affect 400 people in the Eastleigh area who rely on these emergency safety nets, with thousands more affected by the change across the county.
Eastleigh MP Mike Thornton is demanding a rethink on the cuts.
Mike Thornton said, "Cutting alarm and support funding would leave many thousands of elderly residents vulnerable and cut off from emergency help. Conservative County Bosses need a rethink.”
"The County Council has over £400 million in their reserves for a 'rainy day'. They ought to be spending some of this to maintain vital support for our pensioners.”
